FRANK HINDER
Frank Hinder AM (1906–1992) was a pioneer of Australian abstraction who was deeply involved in the development of modern art in Australia, led a most varied, eventuful and colourful life. Unlike the mainstream artists who left Australia to study in Europe, Frank went to America when he was only twenty-one to study at the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts, returning to Australia seven years later with his American wife Margel. Frank Hinder commands a prominent place in the history of Australian abstraction.
