The traditional homes of the Bunjalung and Githavul aboriginal people are around the Grafton area and the north coast of New South Wales. Dirrangun, a powerful woman, is well known to both peoples who speak of her connection with local landmarks. The story of Dirrangun at Baryulgil comes from the Bunjalung Tribe.

This pattern contains full instructions, colour key and chart for producing the cross-stitch artwork. DMC colour codes are supplied (threads not included).

Bronwyn Bancroft - about the Artist
Bronwyn is a highly acclaimed Aboriginal artist and designer whose artworks have been collected by galleries and museums throughout Australia, USA and Germany. She is a descendant of the Bunjalung people of New South Wales and lives in Sydney with her three children. Exhibitions of her art have been shown throughout Australia as well as in Indonesia, New Zealand, USA, France and Germany. In 1994 she was the Australian candidate for the UNICEF - Ezra and Jack Keats International Award for Excellence in Children's Book Illustration. Books she has illustrated include Fat and Juicy Place, Stradborke Dreamtime, The Whalers, Uncle Minah and Dirrangun, all published by Harper Collins. In 1999 and 2000 Big Rain Coming and Leaving, written by Katrina Germein and illustrated by Bronwyn were originally published by Roland Harvey Books and are now published by Penguin Books. In 2004 Harper Collins USA published Sun Mother Wakes the World: An Australian Creation Story adapted by Diane Wolkstein with beautiful illustrations by Bronwyn.
